Online bidding is nothing new for Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers. In fact, we first integrated internet bidding into the live auction experience back in 2002. But it's still an element to our business that customers don't get to see in action, as it all takes place in "ePods" at the corporate headquarters in Vancouver, BC.

This year, we're showcasing internet bidding onsite for the first time at our six-day Orlando 2018 auction. Below is eClerk Craig Froude piloting the internet bidding controls.

Real-time bidding - onsite and online - in the new virtual tent.

The traditional method of selling big lots like excavators and cranes was to sell from a mobile truck that rolls through the yard. This year we're selling those sizable lots in a huge virtual bidding tent to house the massive crowds expected. Check out the video below, filmed in the virtual tent, to see how online bidding intersects with onsite bidding:

Orlando is about size and scope – here's the proof

We shot an aerial video using drones to give you a real sense of the size and scope of the auction yard. You have to see this. Your jaw will be hitting the floor. Don't forget to pick it back up.

More shots from the opening day of Orlando

Around 1,500 lots were sold on the opening day in Orlando, with skid steer loaders, loader backhoes and utility vehicles hitting the ramp in the main auction theatre. Tuesday will feature motor graders, wheel loaders, articulated dump trucks, and the mighty rock trucks. Here are some more snaps from opening day:
