What is something you wished you knew when you first started out in the construction industry?
We recently asked that question to our Facebook followers to find out what construction experts out there thought. Here are some of their top answers:
1. Quality not quantity
You need to build a reputation for quality if you want to generate good word of mouth and grow your business or career. Being consistent and reliable will get you more repeat business in the long-run.
2. Your good relationships, good work, honesty, and transparency pay the bills
This tip is very similar to the first. Nobody wants to work with someone they donât trust. Build a reputation for quality work and honesty and you will do well.
3. Bid high and work hard
Position yourself as the best option, not the cheapest. Donât bid so low that you wonât be able to complete the work to a level of quality you can feel proud of. Youâll get more repeat work and build winning relationships if you have a reputation for being on-time and on-budget.
4. Never overlook safety
Each year there are thousands of injuries on construction sites. Always learn the correct safety procedures for each piece of equipment you are operating and follow the work site safety policies.
5. Never be afraid to ask questions
No one knows everything about equipment so donât be afraid to ask questions. What you learn today will help you succeed in the future.
